Mayor Maria Sachs

County Mayor Maria Lorts Sachs is a public servant to her very core. Having served as a proud member of the Florida legislature since 2006, serving two terms in the Florida House as well as two terms in the Florida Senate, Maria Sachs knows firsthand what it takes to lead and deliver real results for our community.

During her time in the legislature, Maria was elected by her peers to serve as the Minority Leader Pro Tempore and the Minority Whip.

Growing up as a daughter of a WWII Army combat veteran and his Italian war bride, Maria was raised with a profound sense of patriotism and commitment to America’s veterans.

Understanding the power of the law and how it affects everyday citizens, Maria brings a wealth of useful insight into her leadership roles to “Fight for the People”.

A graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree Cum Laude, a Master’s Degree from Boston University, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami, Maria is a member of the Federal Bar, California Bar, and Florida Bar Associations.

As a prosecutor with Janet Reno, Maria specializes in protecting the rights of abused women and promoting the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders. Working through the McDuffie Riots, the Marielito boatlift and the prosecution of Ted Bundy strengthened her conviction to speak for those who have no voice. After her service as an Assistant State Attorney, Maria began her own practice, where she continues today defending the rights of victims.

Maria is the proud wife of Peter Sachs, founding partner of Sachs, Sax, Caplan P.L. Together they have raised three children, Natasha, Marcello, and Taylor.
