When disaster struck, Maria Sachs swiftly responded. A sudden tornado ripped through Kings Point Retirement Community, damaging homes and automobiles leaving some residents without a home to go back to. Commissioner Sachs got to work at once, coordinating with County emergency services and securing emergency shelter and temporary housing for seniors in need. In partnership with Danielle Hartman od Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services and Eric Roby of American Red Cross, District 5 residents had the support they needed to get back on their feet.

Every year during her tenure on the County Commission, Mayor Sachs has travelled to Tallahassee with her colleagues to meet with State legislators to promote our County’s legislative agenda. Mayor Sachs has met with the Speaker of the House, the Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation and several others to fight for the state funding we need to improve our local community.

One of Mayor Sachs’ most important missions is PRESERVING the area of land known as the Agricultural Reserve. For this reason, Maria has reached out to community leaders to hear their ideas on how to best represent resident’s interests. She has met with delegates from: The Presidents Council, COBWRA, The Alliance, West Boca Community Council, BARC, Sierra Club and representatives from: Valencia Reserve, Valencia Cove, Canyon Lakes, and Canyon Isles. It is her commitment to continue this work to protect our Agricultural Reserve.

Mayor Sachs has always strived to support the families and children who call Palm Beach County home. For example, Sachs officially declared November 2022 as Family Court Awareness month honoring the Florida Protective Parents Association. Under the direction of Board Director, Daria Furman, this organization observes court proceedings to ensure that decisions made do not negatively impact families and protect the rights of children throughout our County.

For Mayor Maria Sachs, water is one of the most valuable resources in the county and she believes we need to ensure its high-quality and available when needed. That’s why Mayor Sachs is proud to have attended the C-51 Reservoir formal groundbreaking on February 24th. During the event, our County unveiled an alternative water supply project that will benefit the entire region of Southeast Florida. The reservoir is designed to capture and store excess storm water while replenishing the surficial and Biscayne Aquifers throughout our area. The main purpose of the reservoir is to remove the harm done to the Lake Worth Lagoon, currently caused by waste water being sent to sea. Mayor Sachs has been a leader in the regional partnership among the State, Counties, Water Management agencies, private businesses and local governments to improve our water quality and safeguard it for future generations.

Mayor Sachs is a life-long proponent of public safety and believes in supporting our first responders by providing the best funding and equipment possible to ensure the safety of our community. Mayor Sachs has consistently voted to fully fund our County fire departments and has even taken part in promotional ceremonies honoring the brave men and women that keep us safe. She will continue to ensure that all residents have access to nearby fire stations to reduce response times and save lives.
